Haibike XDURO Nduro 10.0 Mens Electric Mountain Bike
The top specced Haibike Nduro machine, for 2019 the already brilliant Nduro 10.0 has been improved significantly with the Haibike FLYON power and control system that delivers more low end power with its huge torque, yet is light for those climbs between stages. For the electric mountain biking connoisseur who knows the main European power systems well and perhaps wants to see how they can be improved upon.
SDURO vs XDURO
In recent years Haibike have decided to make it easy for the rider to choose between its lines of electric bikes. The XDURO series is for people who take riding seriously and won’t want to be left out in the rankings. Meanwhile the SDURO series is for those who may still be fit as a fiddle but are more weekend mud warriors than people who eat, sleep and breathe riding.
Haibike NDURO
Haibike’s enduro riding MTB series of electric bikes is designed to put a grin on your face during the climbs between stages and absolutely scream down the hills and mountainsides on those stretches. For those considering getting into the emerging electric enduro competition scene, Haibike have delivered a serious player.

Get ready for the Nduro 10.0!
The Haibike XDURO Nduro 10.0’s carbon frame houses the FLYON i630Wh battery, sat there for improved agility on those twists and turns. At the front it has 180mm travel FOX 36 Float Factory forks that are complemented with a FOX Float X2 Factory rear damper.
To keep the weight down it has an eight-speed Sram EX1 drivetrain that runs over an 11-48t Sram XG899 sprocket, aided and abetted by the FLYON 38t front chain ring for just enough ratios to handle all terrains. For speed control it has Magura MT7 hydraulic brakes on massive, 203mm rotors, front and rear.
Its 27.5” DT Swiss FR1950 wheel set has Schwalbe Magic Mary tyres that can chew up all substrates you’re likely to see on your routes from top to bottom and bottom to top. 780mm handlebars and a Kind Shock LEV-Integra telescoping seat post are there for optimum control.
For those who may want to ride at night, the Nduro 10.0 has a super bright 150 lux Haibike Skybeamer 5000 integrated into the system, and at the rear it has Haibike Twin TailLights.
Flyon
New for 2019 is the Haibike Flyon drive and control system. Perhaps aware that they could do better than those companies they pay licenses to to use their power systems (Bosch and Yamaha) the German cycling brand has redesigned the e-bike system from the ground up.
European regulations limit how fast you can go but not how fast you get to that top speed. Even the 250W Yamaha PW-X manages 80Nm of torque – which really is kicking like a mule – but Haibike have gone a full 50% of power better and delivered 120Nm of torque which is like being kicked by a mad bull. You want warp speed acceleration up the track or even at the lights, you got it!
It isn’t just the motor Haibike have fixed up. The speed sensor has been improved with a special disc spinning in front of a sensor that is integrated into the frame. This sends 18 measurements per wheel rotation to the control system, enabling it to respond more quickly than any other sensor system to a change in cadence.
The 38 or 42 tooth proprietary front chain ring that takes that power from the motor and sends it direct to the drivetrain.
The Flyon control system is integrated into the handlebars just above the stem. Here, Haibike’s boffins have been hard at work too. You have a choice of five power settings from Eco to Xtreme. Colour codes tell you what power level you’re in and with easy navigation you can see a whole range of measurements from projected battery life-distance to speed and distance, as well as things like heart rate and cadence.
One of the problems all e-bikes have is that they are carrying the weight of the Lithium-ion battery and the motor. These are unavoidable, so the best manufacturers have worked out the best place to put them for ride-ability – this is in the frame, low down where the pivot point should be. This is why the Flyon battery is completely concealed in the frame.
A final improvement on the Bosch / Yamaha systems? The battery. The best Bosch offers is the ‘i500Wh’ battery that may give you 50 miles of mixed riding. For very little weight penalty Habike offer a 630Wh battery that on a carbon framed featherweight machine should give you an extra 20 miles before you reach into your backpack for a spare!
