Haibike XDURO FatSix 8.0 2019 Mens Electric Mountain Bike
At a point in your eMTB career where you’re bored with going everywhere everyone else goes? You might have a soft-sand beach nearby or the you’re lucky enough to be somewhere where it snows regularly. Anywhere that normal electric mountain bikes can’t go indeed, is probably somewhere the Haibike XDURO FatSix 8.0 CAN go – just don’t ride it in deep water.
SDURO vs XDURO
In recent years Haibike have decided to make it easy for the rider to choose between its lines of electric bikes. The XDURO series is for people who take riding seriously and won’t want to be left out in the rankings. Meanwhile the SDURO series is for those who may still be fit as a fiddle but are more weekend mud warriors than people who eat, sleep and breathe riding.
FatSix
Fat is where it’s at! Have a beach nearby that you want to explore? Mountain bikes can’t handle that, right? Wrong. Soft snow a barrier? No. What about muddy, soft tracks that tractors have chewed up? Nup. With its huge, 4 inch wide wheels this series of electric mountain bike has a wide yet soft footprint that allows you to take on substrate that confounds all other MTBs. Even on road and normal tracks these are surprisingly agile too, so while sticking out loud and proud, this could be your main e-MTB…
Who are you?
You may well be a serious MTB rider with the urge to buy your n+1 bike for conditions that would otherwise stop you riding. You could be into cross-country riding yet find that on a soggy winter’s day the land becomes boggy. You may want just to be different to everyone else and ride an eMTB that looks and feels totally different to any other on the road. The Haibike XDURO FatSix 8.0 is a machine that will do all this and more!
Details
The first thing you will notice on this monster Haibike XDURO FatSix 8.0 e-MTB is the 27.5” wheels that are built on Alexrims Blizzerk80 rims and 4-inch wide Schwalbe Jumbo Jim Evo tyres that are designed to grip onto soft and loose surfaces like a pro.
To handle the monster wheels the bike needs special forks. 100mm travel RockShox Bluto RL forks with a remote lockout is wide enough for those tank like wheels yet will absorb whatever terrain you throw at this machine.
With the Yamaha PW-SE motor pushing you along that sticky, loose or slippery stuff the 11 speed Sram NX drivetrain is more than enough to tackle what you chuck at it. Stopping power is the Tektro Orion M735 brakes on 180mm rotors.
A XLC AllMtn, remote control 31.6mm travel seat post will help you adjust position in those moments where you change from ascent to descent and 780mm handlebars are excellent for directional control.
500Wh battery, Yamaha PW-SE motor and Side Switch display
This bike comes with a Yamaha 500 watt hour battery that is ample for longer length rides where you’re not embarrassed to ask for the odd push of full power as you get about. Rechargeable in just a few hours, you can plug it in in the evening and have a full battery for your next day in the saddle.
The Yamaha PW-SE is a development on the tried and tested Yamaha PW motor and delivers just the power you need where and when you need it. Economical yet delivering just the right amount of power when you need it, this power system is perfect for road and trail alike.
The Yamaha Side Switch display is an LCD screen that shows all your parameters in one place so with just a quick glance you can see just what you want, be it battery life, power setting, speed or distance travelled. You control the power output of the motor with a flick of a switch from your right thumb.
