Haibike XDURO FatSix 8.0 2018 Electric Mountain Bike
Fat is where it’s at? If you want a beast of a bike that will handle soft sand, peat bogs and a good old soggy British winter’s riding, the Haibike XDURO FatSix 8.0 is the machine for you. Just one thing though – even though it looks super cool, it doesn’t like roads much (if at all)!
Difference between XDURO FatSix 8.0 and 9.0
This FatSix 8.0 and its bigger 9.0 sibling are very similar, only really differing in their motor and battery setup. On this machine you have the Yamaha PW motor and 400 Watt hour battery that gives slightly lower range than the Bosch system on the FatSix 9.0.
A lover of bogs and beaches alike
The specially developed 4 inch wide wheels have a huge surface area for floating over softer and wetter substrates. You can handle snow, sand and bogs, or even muddier patches of off-road routes after a spell of good old British weather. It is a year round bike if you want to ride to a stretch of beach that isn’t too busy in summer too!
FatSix 8.0 features
The 100mm travel RockShox Bluto forks are specially built with fat tyres in mind and have a handlebar control for different presets. A Sram 11 speed drivetrain runs over an 11 speed, 11-46t cassette that offers the biggest ratio difference on any electric mountain bike, with the 46t rear cog helping you with the most brutal of climbs.
Braking is with a twin piston Maguro MT5 front hydraulic disc brake on the front where most of the braking pressure is and an MT4 on the rear. The 27.5” wheels are Schwalbe Jumbo Jim tyres on Alex Blizzrek Pro drilled rims.
This funky looking machine will do well in more extreme conditions, but for the same reason you don’t see many tractors overtaking you on the motorway, this is far happier off-road than on!
Yamaha PW electric motor
This 250 Watt crank motor can give up to 280% of the power you put into the pedals, and with up to 70Nm of torque you can race off from a standing start with just a quick kick to the pedal. There are four modes of assistance ranging from Eco+ to High mode that you can use according to your needs.
The energy comes from the 400 Watt hour frame mounted battery that will realistically give you 60 – 80 or so miles on a typical ride. The Yamaha LCD display has a range of parameters that include a battery meter and projected range at the current setting.
