Haibike XDURO Adventr 6.0 2019 Mens Electric Mountain Bike
The ultimate adventure electric mountain bike, the Haibike XDURO Adventr 6.0 will flatten every mountain before you! If you’re planning a big, multi-day trip that will involve off-road and on-road sections as you go, look no further. If you’re after a commuter machine with great range and torque for getting away at junctions too? All of these needs will be amply supported with the Haibike FLYON system that has huge torque and range for riding in all conditions and terrains.
SDURO vs XDURO
In recent years Haibike have decided to make it easy for the rider to choose between its lines of electric bikes. The XDURO series is for people who take riding seriously and won’t want to be left out in the rankings. Meanwhile the SDURO series is for those who may still be fit as a fiddle but are more weekend mud warriors than people who eat, sleep and breathe riding.
Haibike Adventr
A giant leap of improvement on the successful Haibike Cross series of hybrid machines, the Adventr series of hybrid electric bikes are designed to be as at home far from civilisation as they are in the middle of the urban jungle. Powered with the new Habike FLYON system they have great range yet can carry a good load mile after mile without the rider breaking a sweat (unless you choose to!)
Who are you?
You may be planning a grand tour for the next year and need a machine that has fantastic range and the power to dominate even the hardest sections of your route. You may just enjoy the odd multi-day cross country expedition and need a machine that will handle a good 50 miles off riding between battery changes on a mix of power settings. You could also be a commuter for whom the very best machine for the job is just the job!
Get ready for an Adventr!
The FLYON integrates battery sits low in the XDURO Adventr 6.0’s carbon frame for better weight distribution and thus manoeuvrability. Up front this all terrain beast has 120mm travel SR Suntour Aion35 RLR DS front shocks with a lockout for different riding conditions.
Its FLYON power system uses a 42 tooth front chain ring and an 11 speed Shimano Deore XT M8000 drivetrain with a 11-46 tooth cassette for a great range of ratios. Speed control is achieved with a Shimano Deore XT M8020 front hydraulic disc brake and a Shimano Deore XT M8000 disc brake at the rear, both with big 203mm rotors that won’t get too hot after any serious descent.
On double walled, 27.5 inch mountain bike wheels, Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres with puncture protection will grip any substrate well yet will survive all but the hardest of blackthorns or glass on your travels.
For night riding, 150 lux Haibike Skybeamer 5000 headlights will show you the way and for being seen, Haibike Twin TailLights at the rear are also integrated into the main battery system.
Flyon
New for 2019 is the Haibike Flyon drive and control system. Perhaps aware that they could do better than those companies they pay licenses to to use their power systems (Bosch and Yamaha) the German cycling brand has redesigned the e-bike system from the ground up.
European regulations limit how fast you can go but not how fast you get to that top speed. Even the 250W Yamaha PW-X manages 80Nm of torque – which really is kicking like a mule – but Haibike have gone a full 50% of power better and delivered 120Nm of torque which is like being kicked by a mad bull. You want warp speed acceleration up the track or even at the lights, you got it!
It isn’t just the motor Haibike have fixed up. The speed sensor has been improved with a special disc spinning in front of a sensor that is integrated into the frame. This sends 18 measurements per wheel rotation to the control system, enabling it to respond more quickly than any other sensor system to a change in cadence.
The 38 or 42 tooth proprietary front chain ring that takes that power from the motor and sends it direct to the drivetrain.
The Flyon control system is integrated into the handlebars just above the stem. Here, Haibike’s boffins have been hard at work too. You have a choice of five power settings from Eco to Xtreme. Colour codes tell you what power level you’re in and with easy navigation you can see a whole range of measurements from projected battery life-distance to speed and distance, as well as things like heart rate and cadence.
One of the problems all e-bikes have is that they are carrying the weight of the Lithium-ion battery and the motor. These are unavoidable, so the best manufacturers have worked out the best place to put them for ride-ability – this is in the frame, low down where the pivot point should be. This is why the Flyon battery is completely concealed in the frame.
A final improvement on the Bosch / Yamaha systems? The battery. The best Bosch offers is the ‘i500Wh’ battery that may give you 50 miles of mixed riding. For very little weight penalty Habike offer a 630Wh battery that on a carbon framed featherweight machine should give you an extra 20 miles before you reach into your backpack for a spare!
