Haibike SDURO HardSeven 8.0 2019 Electric Mountain Bike
Top of the range of the SDURO Haibike HardSeven line of hardtail cross country electric mountain bikes, the Haibike SDURO HardSeven 8.0 i500Wh will chew up the trails but forgive you for riding on roads as you move between track and trail and on the lanes between. Its 500 watt-hour battery and torquey Bosch ePerformance CX will make uphill riding as much of a blast as downhill too!
8.0 vs 4.0 vs 1.0
Among the three HardSeven electric mountain bikes we have in stock, the 8.0 has the best shocks, brakes and drivetrain. You get what you pay for and you’ll immediately notice the difference between the three should you test ride it – it isn’t just the extra wedge you’re parting with!
SDURO vs XDURO
In recent years Haibike have decided to make it easy for the rider to choose between its lines of electric bikes. The XDURO series is for people who take riding seriously and won’t want to be left out in the rankings. Meanwhile the SDURO series is for those who may still be fit as a fiddle but are more weekend mud warriors than people who eat, sleep and breathe riding.
What is this for?
This bike is is very good for cross country riding. Light and fast, its geometry is suited more for the relaxed rider than those who want to do serious competition. The HardSeven 8.0 will be for the rider who wants the best kit and best range of this series of electric mountain bikes.
What’s so hot about the HardSeven 8.0?
For 2019 Haibike have redesigned many of their models. The HardSeven 8.0 is no exception. Its 120mm RockShox Sektor RL shocks have an air adjustable lockout for climbs and road riding, yet will allow you to not have your fillings shaken out when it comes to blasting over rough ground.
Sitting comfortably? The Haibike Components TheSaddle is on a Haibike Components TheStem 2, and you grip the proprietary Haibike 740mm handlebars with Haibike grips.
The drivetrain and gearing on this is made by Sram. The Sram PG1130, 11-42t cassette gives a great range of gears for hard climbs and fast descents alike, and this 11 speed Sram system is controlled through the Sram NX thumb trigger and rear derailleur.
For stopping you have Tektro Orion M745 hydraulic disc brakes with a whopping 203mm front rotor and a smaller 180mm rotor on the rear – most of your stopping power is felt at the front and this adds power just where you need it.
The tyres on the Haibike SDURO HardSeven 8.0 are 27.5” Schwalbe Smart Sam, 70-584 that give comfortable rolling resistance on hard surfaces yet grip loose and wet surfaces well. These are mounted on Rodi Tryp 35, eyed, double-walled rim, with Haibike Components TheHub aluminium front and rear wheel hub.
500 watt hour battery, Bosch Performance CX and Purion display.
Your 500 watt-hour battery will give you a good 50-60 miles of mixed terrain riding – a lot more if you put more into the pedals and ask less of the motor! Batteries are easily swapped out using a special key so for a big day in the saddle you might want to carry another. They can be charged in just 2 hours using the supplied fast charger.
The 250W Bosch ePerformance CX is built with the trails in mind. It gives a little extra power at lower cadences for when you need that extra kick to get up to speed, while cutting out briefly during a gear change to protect the chain as you need to kick a little harder on those climbs. With a peak output of 75Nm of torque (up to 300% the wattage you put into the pedals) you can really shift when you need to, too!
This is controlled through the Bosch Purion control system. This gives a range of data to you the rider, from estimated battery on a given power setting to distance left on that setting, as well as speed and distance covered. It really is all you need for a fun day out in the hills! With power just a click of the left thumb and the other data available with an easy to use thumb-joystick you can focus on riding not faffing about with the system!
