Haibike SDURO HardSeven 4.0 2019 Electric Mountain Bike
The mid range of the Haibike HardSeven range we stock, the Haibike SDURO HardSeven 4.0 is a great all rounder for XC and trails that is still comfortable on the road. Built on the same geometry, frame, saddle and control system as the 8.0 and 1.0 HardSevens this is a great buy for someone who likes to have fun on the track but isn’t concerned about shaving tenths of a second off their run on the hill.
4.0, 8.0, 1.0?
Haibike have made these three HardSeven bikes with different drivetrains, shocks, braking systems and batteries. The 500 watt hour battery on the HardSeven 4.0 will give you a decent bit of added range against the 1.0, meaning you can get another 10-20 miles in blasting around the dirt than you might the 1.0.
SDURO vs XDURO
In recent years Haibike have decided to make it easy for the rider to choose between its lines of electric bikes. The XDURO series is for people who take riding seriously and won’t want to be left out in the rankings. Meanwhile the SDURO series is for those who may still be fit as a fiddle but are more weekend mud warriors than people who eat, sleep and breathe riding.
Who is this for?
You will be a rider who wants to chew up the miles on longer cross country rides yet won’t be the sort who lies in bed with their significant other dreaming of mountain bikes. The HardSeven 4.0 won’t break the bank yet is a great bike for blasting around the countryside.
Tell me more?
The Haibike SDURO HardSeven 4.0 500Wh is a step forward from its 1.0 brother, with better shocks and drivetrain. Built on the same aluminium 6061 frame as the rest of the HardSeven range, it still has some very good kit that will serve you well as you venture into the sticks.
Highlights on this electric mountain bike include the 120mm Suntour XCR forks with Air LO-R lockout to switch between hard, soft decline and incline riding. For the rider venturing into decent off-road riding these are high quality shocks that will take a good bit of pummelling on the terrain.
The 11 speed drivetrain is based on the 11-42 tooth chain ring and Shimano Deore derailleur / thumb click gear system. This allows for some great ratios and as you climb you’ll soon realise how fun uphill can be!
Tektro M275 hydraulic brakes are connected to 180mm front and rear rotors. Tektro are a leading brand in the disc brakes world and other than the bigger rotors on the front, you have an almost identical speed control system to that of the HardSeven 8.0.
With a good balance of rolling resistance yet grip on the loose / wet stuff, the Schwalbe Smart Sam tyres on 27.5” wheels round off a very good machine for someone who may like to ride out of town and into the wilds.
500 watt hour battery, Bosch Performance CX and Purion display.
Your 500 watt-hour battery will give you a good 50-60 miles of mixed terrain riding – a lot more if you put more into the pedals and ask less of the motor! Batteries are easily swapped out using a special key so for a big day in the saddle you might want to carry another. They can be charged in just 2 hours using the supplied fast charger.
The 250W Bosch ePerformance CX is built with the trails in mind. It gives a little extra power at lower cadences for when you need that extra kick to get up to speed, while cutting out briefly during a gear change to protect the chain as you need to kick a little harder on those climbs. With a peak output of 75Nm of torque (up to 300% the wattage you put into the pedals) you can really shift when you need to, too!
This is controlled through the Bosch Purion control system. This gives a range of data to you the rider, from estimated battery on a given power setting to distance left on that setting, as well as speed and distance covered. It really is all you need for a fun day out in the hills! With power just a click of the left thumb and the other data available with an easy to use thumb-joystick you can focus on riding not faffing about with the system!
