Haibike SDURO Cross 1.0 2019 Mens Electric Bike
The entry level electric cyclocross bike in the Haibike range, the Haibike SDURO Cross 1.0 Mens is designed to be quick on the roads with its low profile and rolling resistance tyres yet to grip the looser, wetter stuff as its knobbly tyres help you thrash along on off-road sections. With its Bosch Active Line Plus motor and the 400 watt hour battery it could well be used as a commuting machine
SDURO vs XDURO
In recent years Haibike have decided to make it easy for the rider to choose between its lines of electric bikes. The XDURO series is for people who take riding seriously and won’t want to be left out in the rankings. Meanwhile the SDURO series is for those who may still be fit as a fiddle but are more weekend mud warriors than people who eat, sleep and breathe riding.
Haibike Cross series
Haibike have made what may be termed a ‘serious hybrid’ in the Cross series for enjoyable riding on road yet can chew up the countryside on legs between the road – a cyclocross bike in short. This can make it a good commuter, or a machine that you can take on family rides with to keep up with the youngsters!
Who’s this for?
Injured or off games from traditional cyclocross racing? An electric bike can help you train up again without putting too much strain on your body. For someone who does longer road sections on a mixed terrain ride this has lower rolling resistance on its knobbly road tyres than an MTB tyre. For a mixed fun / commuter rider this can get you to work and into the hills – you may have other ideas too!
More detail please!
Great for forest and farm tracks as well as the road, a cyclocross will take more abuse than a carbon racing machine yet be quite a bit quicker than an MTB on the road. That means faster ascents and lots of unpowered descending as the motor cuts out at 25kph.
The SDURO Cross 1.0 Mens electric cyclocross bike has an eight speed Shimano Acera M360 based drivetrain that with the motor supporting you will get you up most hills without breaking a sweat. Braking is with Tektro T275 disc brakes on a 180mm front rotor and a 160mm rear rotor – the bigger rotor on the front as most braking force is there.
With a lockout for different terrains the SR Suntour NEX E25-LO front shocks will absorb many of the lumps and bumps on the track, helped with the Schwalbe Smart Sam, knobbly tyres.
Bosch Active Line Plus motor, 400Wh battery and Purion display
Taking up to 1,000 measurements a second from your pedalling, this 250 watt motor gives back just as much power when you need it. Light yet agile, it gives great torque in a smooth yet controlled manner. The Bosch Active Line Plus also pauses briefly as you change gear so your drivetrain isn’t overly stressed. Topping out at 25km/h it provides all the kick you need in normal riding.
This is controlled through the Bosch Purion control system. This gives a range of data to you the rider, from estimated battery on a given power setting to distance left on that setting, as well as speed and distance covered. It really is all you need for a fun day out in the hills! With power just a click of the left thumb and the other data available with an easy to use thumb-joystick you can focus on riding not faffing about with the system!
The hot-swappable 400 watt-hour battery will serve you well over 30-40 miles of mixed riding – more if you stay in Eco setting or switch it off! Chargeable in just 2 hours, it is easily switched with another one should you feel the need to go farther.
