Crussis – a pure e-bike brand for entry level e-cyclists…
According to the Crussis website, “It all started in 2012, when we decided to prepare our first collection of electric wheels and to enter as a new brand on the Czech market. We succeeded in doing this and, under our own CRUSSIS brand, we first introduced our electric bike at the FOR BIKES trade fair in March 2013…”
Unlike many other European brands of e-bikes that started on traditional bikes before adapting to the world of electric bikes, Lanskroun, Czech Republic based Crussis started out as an e-bike company. They had no preconceptions about morphing traditional bikes into e-bikes – there was no transition from analogue to digital here.
Another key difference between Crussis and the German, UK and French e-bike manufacturers is that they didn’t have a brand to protect in selling a lower cost machine. If you want a machine that is as much about its brand name as its build quality, look for a Haibike, Cube, Merida, LaPierre or Raleigh – there is an element of brand protection in the cost of the machines you buy from them. Instead with Crussis you have e-bikes that don’t have to be shamed by selling a machine at sub-£1000.
Let’s have a look at some of those machines now that we’re stocking for the first time in 2019.
Electric Bikes Under a £1000 – no compromises
In many ways, here at E-Bikes Direct we share something with Crussis. We believe that you don’t have to spend silly amounts of cash to share the comfort and enjoyment that comes with e-bikes. This is frankly one of the reasons we shift a lot more lower priced machines than we do your £5 grand mountain monsters!
We will soon sell a crank motor powered Crussis e-Largo 9.4 29er Electric Mountain Bike with an in-tube battery. This really shows what the Czech company can do when it comes to machines for chewing up the countryside at huge speeds. We aren’t going to do a machine like this down (we want you to buy one at the end of the day) but I bet we will shift a few more of the cheaper machines.
What about the Crussis e-City 1.9 Alloy Step Through Electric Bike? This is a great machine for popping into town, seeing friends at their places and so on. It’s even in my wife’s favourite colour (likely her reason for buying it). On the more expensively priced European models you will hear how wonderful the Bosch power system is but here’s something – Bafang is a Chinese electric bike motor company that has been selling at crazy volumes for longer than e-bikes have even been known in the West. You wander the streets of Shenzhen or Beijing and you’ll see tens of thousands of Bafang powered e-bikes – possibly more of those in a day than you would see in the total amount of e-bikes in a year in the Netherlands for example. The 250W rear hub motor on the Crussis e-City machine is solid, reliable and will do the job. Its 700c tyres are fat enough to handle even the roughest of forgotten British bike tracks too!
A slight boost on this is the Crussis e-Savela 1.3 Trekking Alloy Step Through Electric Bike, a woman’s geometry touring machine with the world dominating Bafang 8FUN motor that will give you a real kick just when you need it at the lights or when an HGV gets too close and personal on a roundabout. To iron out the bumps and potholes in the road, the Crussis e-Savela 1.3’s Zoom forks will cushion your ride.
In this world, cheap is a relative concept
When it comes to e-bikes, ‘cheap’ is still double or more what you would pay for a dirt cheap new traditional bike from your local car parts and bike shop down the road. Many are put off at the idea of spending more on an e-bike than they would a second hand car, and that is why we proudly sell the lower cost machines. Where it comes to e-bikes, you certainly don’t ‘buy cheap / get cheap’ – get riding a Crussis machine and you will completely understand what we’re saying here!
