“Bike Week 100 is all about workplace cycling, and we want to encourage as many workplaces as possible to support their staff to ride during the week, it can be anything from organising an event ride to simply encouraging staff to choose the bike instead of the car.” – Cycling UK
Bike Week in the UK has a rich history that spans several decades, representing a celebration of cycling culture and promoting the benefits of cycling for individuals, communities, and the environment.
The origins of Bike Week can be traced back to the 1920s when the Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC), the oldest national cycling organization in the UK, began organizing events to encourage recreational cycling. These events aimed to promote cycling as a healthy and enjoyable activity.
By the early 1940s, the CTC established the first National Bike Week. Known as National Cyclists’ Week, it’s aim was to raise awareness about cycling and encourage people to use bicycles as a daily mode of transport.
As part of the emerging environmental movement of the 70s, and growing interest in sustainability, including transportation, Bike Week gained momentum. It was secured as a great way to promote cycling as a viable alternative to gas guzzling cars!
In recent years, Bike Week has increasingly emphasized the health and well-being benefits of cycling. The event promotes physical activity, mental well-being, and overall fitness. It encourages individuals to incorporate cycling into their daily lives, whether for commuting, leisure, or exercise.
Here at E-Bikes Direct, we fully endorse the notion of environmentally friendly transportation. Whether a top end Electric Bike, a Folding Electric Bike for commuting, an Electric Mountain Bike from Haibike or a more budget friendly own-brand Basis Electric Bike – we have something to suit everyone. We are all about the Electric Bike
